Letter From The President

Coming to USD I had no idea what I wanted—let alone debate on joining a fraternity. Whenever the thought of a fraternity arose, the typical stereotypes of being in one suddenly popped into my head (partying, extreme hazing etc.). Chance would have it that one fateful evening my freshman roommate mentioned he was headed downtown to this organization fair to check out some fraternity. He subsequently asked me if I wanted to tag along, little did I know my life was about to be forever changed.

I pledged Phi Kappa Theta in the fall of 2010 and I am forever grateful. Today, not only have I gained numerous friends and social abilities, I have also gained the ability to join other organizations while still being able to manage my time effectively so that I may excel academically. This would not have been possible if not for Phi Kappa Theta as well as the fact that as the newest fraternity on campus, there were leadership opportunities available from which I was able to take advantage of early on.

Joining Phi Kappa Theta has helped me learn more about forming bonds with other people as well as learning from alumni who have gone before you. I have also been able to attend national conferences as well as leadership programs which will benefit me down the road in my future career. Phi Kappa Theta has also rewarded me with opportunity of being the first President to reside at our new home on 221 East Main Street. Being able to work with the alumni on getting this house was one of my most memorable experiences during my time here. I can honestly say that given a leadership position was the best thing that could have happened to me. Not only have I changed as a person, but I have been able to get to know the best group of men I have ever encountered. As my last year looms, I cannot help but think about the amazing journey I have had with Phi Kappa Theta and being part of its first five years here on campus. I have been given great opportunities to not only meet people in the house but all over campus because of this involvement. Phi Kappa Theta has not only given me fond memories, but a fulfilling college career that I would not trade for the world.
